Take a minute to close your eyes. Take a deeeeeeep breath then slowly exhale. Now, imagine “Peace”. Are you smiling? What is it that you see? Is it blue skies, white fluffy clouds, the swish of ocean waves rippling on a sandy beach? Maybe your peace is the quiet snore of a loved one, maybe it is the laughter of your children or nieces and nephews. Perhaps it’s reading a book during a rainstorm or a cup of bubbling hot coffee, tea, or a nibble or a sip of something just as tasty that puts a smile on your face.
Peace, it’s something we all long for and wish that we simply had more of. In an ever changing world full of busy days and sometimes long hectic nights finding a bit of tranquility and calm can seem daunting. Still we mustn’t give up hope.
The LORD gives strength to his people; the LORD blesses his people with peace.
Yes, we can have peace and sometimes we have to even learn to practice finding it. Practice allowing to be at rest, in our bodies, in our spirits in our minds and telling ourselves, “Peace be Still”.
Isaiah 26:3 states
You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.
Trust, we must learn to trust in God, no matter what it looks like, or feels like, even when that peace we so desperately long for seems so very far away. It is trusting that despite our circumstances God will see us through.
So, whether your peace is soft and quiet, or sounds a little like jazz on a starry summer night take delight in knowing that we know a God who is able to give us peace that surpasses all understanding and that is able to keep our hearts and minds if we trust and allow him to.
