Amazon’s recent announcement that it intends to build a second headquarters in North America has caused many a city in to wonder if they will be selected as a home for one of the largest companies in the world.
Cities including Miami, Boston and New York are being considered as well as smaller cities such as Raleigh, Pittsburgh and Austin. Many speculate that the company may be looking largely at East Coast Cities.
According to some Amazon said that it is looking for cities with at least 1 million residents, proximity to an international airport, a city with a mass transit system, colleges that are ranked high in quality along with a particular type of workforce and a business-friendly environment.
Property owners and developers in the Pittsburgh were eager to participate in Amazon HQ2 Team's request for proposals for a second location for its headquarters.
In a press release of the Mayor Pittsburgh, Bill Peduto, he stated, “This process is just one more way that Pittsburgh distinguishes itself from other regions,”
Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald added. “Our ability to work together and bring folks from varying interests to the table for a common goal is a unique part of our fabric, and one that will set us apart in this effort. The interest in this process and this bid has been substantial, and we are excited to see so many coming together to work collectively on this response.”
We may have to wait another year or more for Amazon to make their final decision. Good luck to all!
